Type Locality and Naming
Along the Paltau stream and Paltau Mountain, Chatkal Ridge. I.M. Abdurazimov in 1999. Stratotype on the left bank of the Chatkal River, at the confluence of the Paltau stream.
Synonym: Paltau Topitsa, Пальтауская т.
Lithology and Thickness
In the stratotype, the unit is divided into three sub-units. Lower sub-unit is represented by fine-grained sandstones, siltstone (aleurolites), reddish-brown, spotted clays with layers of conglomerates. Thickness 75m. Middle sub-unit - pinkish-red siltstone (aleurolites) and reddish-pinkish-brown aleurolitic clays. Thickness 52m. To the north of the stratotype, in the area of the village of Teper, the sub-t. is characterized by an alternation of sands, fine-, mixed-, and coarse-grained quartz-mica sandstones, pinkish-gray and poorly sorted gravels with dinosaur bone fragments. Upper sub-unit consists of conglomerates, variegated gray, reddish-brown, fine-grained gray, bluish-gray and spotted. Thickness 78m. To the north and northeast of the stratotype, in the sub-t. predominate spotted clays and siltstone (aleurolites).
